Universal Bluford Charter School students participated in the SEPTA poster and essay contest in honor of National Transportation Day. The contest was a great opportunity for students to learn about public transportation while showcasing their artistic and writing talents. The essay contest winners were Kareem Gordon-Graham and Nereida Nievas. For the poster contest, the first place prizes went to Kareem Gordon-Graham, Tashon Warren and Michael Hayes; second place was Yaseer Johnson-Lee and third places prizes went to Jaianna David, Dashawn Kay and Nicole Murray. Congratulations to these students for their excellent work.

"Most students did not have prior knowledge of the types of jobs available in that field.  After researching the industry our students were able to come up with intelligent and relevant questions for the Septa representative...Yaseer Johnson-Lee a fourth grader in my class won 2nd place in the poster contest.  In his illustration of the subway, he included billboard advertising Universal Bluford Charter School as wonderful place to learn."

"The students did exceptionally well and represented the school in a way only a Universal student can. The visiting SEPTA representatives were pleasantly surprised by the insightful and articulate questions and comments the six and forth grades classes had for them. SEPTA was also impressed by the posters and essays the students completed. They anticipated only short writings but were greeted with lengthy well-organized essays."
