Universal Institute Charter School partnered with Barnes and Noble to host a Bookfair fundraiser at the Rittenhouse Square store. Universal Charter sponsored in-store events from November 29th - December 1st which included a Student Robotics Expo, an Art Exhibit, a teacher-led story hour, holiday craft activities, and a nightly book raffle. A special appearance by the Universal Lady Eagles Cheerleaders featured reading-themed cheers to motivate customers to shop for books and support the cause! Their enthusiasm was contagious!
A performance by the Philadelphia Clef Club featuring budding student Jazz musicians, drew a large crowd of supporters including several parents and Universal employees. Perhaps the highlight of the evening was hearing 6th grader, Sadat Waddy's vocal performance in which he sang lyrics he had written for one of the instrumental jazz pieces (in addition to playing trumpet).
Universal Charter's in-store events at Barnes and Noble are now over, but our Bookfair continues online through December 8th. Supporters simply enter Bookfair ID # 10513851 at checkout. At least 10% of total purchases will be donated to Universal Institute Charter School. Proceeds will be used to buy new books for the "100 Book Challenge" program which requires students to complete an hour of enjoyable reading each day as they work toward reading at grade level or above.
Universal Institute Charter School would like to extend a sincere thanks to everyone who made purchases on behalf of our school, volunteered their time, or attended our events!
